Leeds combo Yard Act merge wiry post-punk minimalism and a collage of styles including dance-pop, Afrobeat, hip-hop, and more, but perhaps most conspicuously, they add a dry wit. They built a devoted audience with early releases like 2020's "The Trapper's Pelts" and the 2021 EP Dark Days. After signing with Island Records. They issued their Mercury Prize-nominated full-length debut, the socio-political and post-punk-centric The Overload, in 2022. It went all the way to number two in the U.K., and following a collaboration with Elton John (a reworked "100% Endurance"), Yard Act co-produced the more stylistically chaotic follow-up, 2024's Where's My Utopia?, with Gorillaz's Remi Kabaka, Jr.
