The Manchester art-pop quartet 10cc is best remembered for the gaseous vocal harmonies in the atmospheric 1975 gem āIām Not In Love.ā Graham Gouldman had ascended through the ranks of rock ānā roll in the wake of the British Invasion, writing hits for The Yardbirds, The Hollies, and others, and united with the other members of the future 10ccāEric Stewart, Kevin Godley, and Lol Cremeāwhen they were working as a session team. The band broke through on its own with the tuneful shuffle āDonnaā in 1972 and subsequently scored a collection of Top 10 albums and singles in the UK. The enduring 1975 album The Original Soundtrack was bolstered by the hits āIām Not In Loveā and āLife Is a Minestroneā but also incorporated experimental prog-rock compositions. Godley and Creme went solo in the late ā70s, with Stewart and Gouldman finding continued success under the 10cc name for the rest of the decade. In the early ā90s, the original lineup joined forces again before dispersing into 10cc-adjacent projects in the following decades.
