2CELLOS, the classically trained Croatian cello duo of Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, burst onto the global stage in 2011 with a viral cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal.” Their self-titled debut album followed, featuring genre-blending classical crossover renditions of hits by U2, Kings of Leon, Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses, and Nirvana.
Their popularity soared further in 2012 when they appeared in a Michael Jackson-themed episode of Glee, introducing their sound to a new generation of fans. Elton John, struck by their live energy, invited them to open for him on tour, remarking that he hadn’t seen anything as exciting since Jimi Hendrix.
2CELLOS continued to top the charts with Celloverse, which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical and Classical Crossover charts, and their “Game of Thrones Medley” with the London Symphony Orchestra, their third Classical chart-topper. Their electrifying rendition of AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” has amassed several hundred million video views.
