An American black metal group with a keen ear for droning, moribund atmospherics, Ash Borer were founded in Arcata, California in 2008. Alongside West Coast contemporaries like Weakling, Fell Voices, and Wolves in the Throne Room, the band made a mark in the underground black metal scene via a flurry of demos and split 7" releases. They eventually issued an eponymous, independent debut full-length outing in 2011, which caught the attention of Profound Lore, who quickly signed the group. Cold of Ages, their sophomore long-player and first outing for the label, dropped in 2012. The band's third full-length, Irrepassable Gate, arrived in 2016, again via Profound Lore. ~ James Christopher Monger
