Mixing sing-a-long choruses with breezy, emotional piano-laced power-pop, Between the Trees, when they emerged in the '00s, revealed a power, connection, and clearly a record collection that belied the teenage status of most of its members. While the band has ties to the Christian music community, its upbeat songs of love and eternal struggle are outwardly secular. Originally a five-piece, the band was whittled down to the trio of Ryan Kirkland, and Josh and Jeremy Butler by its second record, 2009's majestic SPAIN.
