Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. The first song I ever heard that really made me think that rap was a great medium for expressing how you feel is “F**k Tha Police” by NWA. As a black man myself I fell in love with how real the lyrics were and how they used music to send a message.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? J. Cole, 2014 Forest Hills Drive Kendrick Lamar, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers Logic, Bobby Tarantino II 2014 Forest Hills Drive really opened my eyes to the deeper side of rap music. Bobby Tarantino II was on repeat during a difficult time in life. Mr. Morale showed me how self healing and therapy can alter the course of your personal relationships.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Laces” I think this song really encapsulates me as an artist. It’s one of the first songs of mine that did a decent amount of traction in my hometown and really gave people the idea that “Yo, this Damani guy is somebody that we should watch out for”.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The first show I ever did. It was a small gathering in my hometown but I was so nervous before I even touched the stage. Once I got started rapping and the crowd started feeling my words, it was a moment that I will never forget.
