His confidence in his vocalizing abilities might not be so great, since Dave Adams gave himself a credit for "throat" rather than singing on the one and apparently only CD release from the Chicago-based band called Vis@40. Then again, this is heavy metal, so perhaps Adams is just letting fans know that nothing that comes close to the dreaded phenomenon known as "singing" will take place. This group actually invaded the Chicago rock scene on two fronts, as the city's loudest and most aggressive metal band, the Adams amp cranked to the max, and as representatives from a kinder, gentler metal nation in which hooks and grooves are not only tolerated but promised as advertising fodder. Considering that the band titled its masterwork Cruelty 2 Humans, it is probably important to emphasize that the aforementioned hooks are of the melodic variety, not something cadavers would be hung on. Likewise, the grooves would be provided by snappy drummer Ron Bailey and rhythm section partners such as bassist Chris Olsen, and not something the body is shoved into when the band is done with its cruelty. Vis@40, named after a powerful type of motor, added a female singer and changed its name to A.D.D. in 2002. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
