Dee Clark was one of the most successful R&B singers of the late '50s and early '60s, his resonant, expressive tenor gracing several classic hits. Born in Arkansas, he moved to Chicago as a child and debuted on record in 1952 for Okeh as part of a group called the Hambone Kids. He appeared with several other groups, but went solo in 1957, and enjoyed his first national hit with 1958's "Nobody for You," a number three R&B single that just missed the Top 20 on the pop charts. He continued a string of R&B winners with "Just Keep It Up," "(Hey) Little Girl," and "How About That," then in 1961 teamed with guitarist Phil Upchurch to write "Raindrops," his signature tune. The song peaked at number three R&B and number two pop, and was his last major hit. Clark continued performing on the oldies circuit through the late '80s.
