Eydís Evensen’s music paints a melancholic picture of Iceland. Branded as a “post-classical” pianist/composer, Evensen breaks away from the classical tradition in which she was trained with her sparse, slow, and introspective music. It draws from emotions and memories of her hometown of Blönduós, in northern Iceland, and drapes a veil of sadness over the country’s awe-inspiring geography and volcanic nature. Born in 1994, Evensen started piano lessons at six; she composed her first piece about a year later, inspired by a storm. She graduated from Reykjavik’s Hamrahlíð College, singing in Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir’s renowned choir, which counts Björk and members of Sigur Rós as alums. The title of Evensen’s 2021 debut album, Bylur, is also meteorologically inspired: It means "snowstorm" in Icelandic. Floating in ethereal broken chords and serene soundscapes, the album invites the listener into the composer’s innermost thoughts and emotions. It was followed in 2021 by her debut as a headliner, at London's Royal Albert Hall, and her 2022 EP, Frost.
