Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I began learning Mridangam from my father, Guru Ullur Nagendra Udupa, at the age of 4. When I was 9, he organized a concert in Bengaluru, taught me basic Ghatam techniques, and asked me to perform. My journey with the Ghatam started from that moment.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Indialucia, Acatao Layatharanga, Anandam Saagara, Saagara I have always enjoyed performing across various musical genres, & these albums have been particularly fulfilling to work on. They offer a unique fusion of Indian music with world music, flamenco, & electronic elements, creating a blend I truly love.

Shackleton) (Edit)” Its my first single from my debut album My Name is Giridhar Udupa. This album is the expression of my journey, a musical testament to the years I have spent in communion with my humble yet resounding instrument, the ghatam.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My first concert outside India was in 1998, in Berlin, Germany. Now, years later, I’m releasing my first solo album with 7KMusic, also based in Berlin. It feels like life has come full circle, returning to where my global journey began.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? As a traveling musician who has performed in over 50 countries, my dream is to take the Ghatam to every corner of the world, sharing its unique sound and cultural richness with global audiences.
