Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My earliest music memory was singing with my dad; him on the guitar and vocals, and 3-year-old me singing and banging along on the mountain dulcimer. We used to play "tape recorder games", he'd set up his old reel-to-reel machine and we'd sing songs.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Loretta Lynn, Coal Miner's Daughter Various Artists, O Sister! The Women's Bluegrass Collection My mom introduced me to the old stuff; she used to play Loretta's debut album to me when I was in the womb! She also shared this women's bluegrass collection with me and it's one of my favorites. My first purchased Tori Amos CD, I wore this one out!
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Hey There” I opened the album with this track because I wrote it when I was 19. I started writing songs at the age of 6, then spent my life trying to convince myself that I wasn't good enough; this song represents that I was, am, and always will be good enough.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I invited my father into the studio to play on my track Room for One More, which I wrote about my Mema's kitchen table (his mother). The song shares the memory of growing up in Michigan with a heavy Appalachian influence.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? When I started singing in public two years ago, I thought I had reached a state of nirvana. I couldn't possibly imagine life getting better. But it has! I am enjoying the ride, so whatever comes to me, I consider to be extra frosting! Yum.
