Jacqueline Boyer was the winner of the 1960 Eurovision Song Contest, where her performance of Pierre Cour and André Popp's "Tom Pillibi" became France's second triumph in three years. (Ironically, her father ignominiously finished last in the intervening competition.)
The daughter of top French performers Lucienne Boyer and Jacques Pills, Boyer was born Jacqueline Ducos on April 23, 1941. At the age of 15 she made the first of several stage appearances alongside Marlene Dietrich, while her Eurovision success was followed by tours with Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, and Georges Brassens and further hits "Gouli Gouli Dou," "Comme au Premier Jour," and "Grüss Mir die Liebe." In 1963 Boyer had her next international smash, "Mitsou Mitsou"; her other hit singles include "Amis," "Butterfly," "Little Little China Girl," and "Si Quelqu'un Vient Vous Dire," while she has also made a number of movie appearances, including Das Rätsel der Grünen Spinne, Der Nächste Urlaub Kommt Bestimmt, and Diabolo Menthe. ~ Dave Thompson
