Jeremy Loops was born Jeremy Thomas Hewitt in 1984 and raised in Kommetjie, a small surf community in Cape Town. While working as a yachtie, he played guitar in his downtime and developed a unique sound from messing around with loop pedals, through which he creates his drum beats, bass parts, and background vocals. His 2011 self-titled debut EP generated a cult following in South Africa with a rootsy, folky sound that incorporated electronic and hip-hop elements. And with his one-man-band approach, Jeremy Loops has changed the perception of what a live performance can be in South Africa, by using his pedals to power his enchanting and high-energy shows. Through subsequent releases like 2014’s Trading Change and 2018’s Critical as Water, he’s broadened his international reach, thanks to his signature guitar licks, engaging vocal turns, and ear for melodies.

Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
The holy grail of festivals, the most famous stage in the world: Glastonbury. To step onto that stage, to put on a big, unforgettable live show, and to represent South Africa in that moment, would be a dream come true.
