An award-winning Nigerian producer, songwriter, and vocalist, Mut4y (born Okiemute Oniko) rose to prominence in the early 2010s alongside his brother Uzezi Oniko in the popular production duo Legendury Beatz. Combining Afrobeat, hip-hop, reggae fusion, moombahton, and electro house, the duo broke big in 2012 with the chart-topping single "Azonto" by Wizkid, with whom they have continued to work with extensively. The Oniko brothers spent their formative years soaking in the sounds of Congolese greats like Fela Kuti, Angelique Kidjo, and Lagbaja. They formed the production company Legendury Beatz in 2008 and had their first taste of success the following year after hooking up with female rapper Weird MC and producing the singles "Happy Day" and "Moving Up." The duo went widescreen in 2012 after teaming up with Wizkid for the aforementioned "Azonto," and went on to become a crucial cog in the Lagos-based superstar's Starboy Music imprint, producing a slew of hits for artists like Brymo, Mo'Cheddah, and Chidinma. In addition to his work with Legendury Beatz, Oniko has done solo production work under the Mut4y moniker, landing huge hits with Wizkid (2017's "Manya" and 2018's "Commando"), Maleek Berry (2019's "Turn Me On"), and Elhi (2020's "EU4RIA"), that effortlessly fuse hip-hop, R&B, and Afro-pop. ~ James Christopher Monger
