Known for her boundary-pushing lyrics and videos, pop superstar Mylène Farmer is one of France’s most iconic artists, with 6 Diamond-certified and 11 Platinum albums to date.
∙ Thanks to lead single “Pourvu qu’elles soient douces,” the first of Farmer’s 20 No. 1 hits, 1988’s Ainsi soit-je became the decade’s top-selling album by a woman in France.
∙ “Désenchantée,” from 1991’s L’autre—now her signature song—was listed in Guinness World Records as the best-selling single in French history.
∙ Farmer served as a mentor, cowriter, and coproducer on Alizée’s acclaimed debut, Gourmandise, which propelled the young pop singer to European superstardom in 2000.
∙ Seal’s duet on the chart-topping title track of Farmer’s 2001 compilation, Les Mots, helped make it the highest-selling greatest hits collection in French history.
∙ During the 20th anniversary celebration of France’s prestigious Victoires de la Musique in 2005, she was honored as the best female artist of the previous two decades.
∙ She recruited Sting to update his song “Stolen Car” for her 2015 album, Interstellaires, and the track became her first US hit, topping Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.
