Shankar Mahadevan is a singer and composer of Indian classical and Hindu spiritual music, as well as the scores to dozens of Bollywood films.
∙ After finding success as a playback singer for the 1994 film In Custody, Mahadevan left his previous career as a software engineer.
∙ He joined with Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani in 1997 to form the film-scoring team Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, which composed scores for more than 75 movies.
∙ Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed the score for the 2003 Bollywood film Kal Ho Naa Ho, and its soundtrack was India’s best-selling album that year.
∙ He founded the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, a school devoted to the study of Indian classical music, in 2010.
∙ In 2019, he was awarded the Padma Shri, which recognizes achievements in public service, for his contribution to film music.
