Chattanooga rapper Slatt Zy blends nimble hip-hop and cinematic streetwise lyricism with a heavy dose of Southern swag. ∙ In the early 1990s, Slatt Zy’s father sang alongside a pre-fame Usher in the Chattanooga boy band NuBeginning. ∙ The music video for his 2019 standalone single, “Angels Cry,” became a viral online smash, with millions of views across video streaming platforms. ∙ He released his debut mixtape, Zy Story, in 2020, and scored regional hits with the songs “Austin Powers” and “Miss You.” ∙ Zy’s 2020 mixtape East Lake Projects featured a collaboration with Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty (Gucci Mane, 21 Savage) on the track “First Year.”
