With just guitar, drums, and vocals, indie-rock duo Surf Curse summon a garage-rock aesthetic on lean songs with hazy melodies.
• Singer/drummer Nick Rattigan and singer/guitarist Jacob Rubeck have known each other since they were teenagers. They first played together in a band called Buffalo 66 while attending high school outside Las Vegas.
• Rattigan and Rubeck have said they were inspired to start Surf Curse after visiting a Los Angeles DIY music club called The Smell and wanting to become part of that scene.
• Surf Curse released their first album, Buds, in 2013 before moving to Reno and eventually Los Angeles. Additional albums followed in 2017 and 2019.
• Rattigan also performs under the name Current Joys, while Rubeck’s solo project is called Casino Hearts.
