Texas have been interweaving sophisticated pop, soul, and R&B since their formation in 1986. The Glasgow, Scotland groupānamed after German filmmaker Wim Wendersā Paris, Texasāreleased their debut full-length, Southside, in 1989, delivering soaring rock songs like āI Donāt Want a Loverā that benefit from both lush synths and a country bent. In 1997, they scored a UK No. 1 with White On Blonde. This album, with its slick R&B grooves and singer Sharleen Spiteriās sensual vocals, turned the group into goliaths of soulful pop, especially thanks to the aching āSay What You Want.ā Since then, theyāve expanded their sound into dance pop (2000ās āInner Smileā) and throwback disco (2017ās āLetās Work It Outā); thereās also a couple of collaborations with hip-hop giants Wu-Tang Clan, including the slinky and cinematic title track from 2021ās Hi.
