The early music ensemble The Curious Bards has an unusual specialty: the traditional music of Scotland and Ireland and its intersections with classical traditions. The Curious Bards were formed in 2014 in Bordeaux, France. The five members are Baroque violinist Alix Boivert, viol and viola da gamba player Sarah Van Oudenhove, cittern player Jean-Christophe Morel, flutist Bruno Harlé, and harpist Louis Capeille. The Curious Bards were named Young Ensemble in Residence at the arts center La Cité de la Voix in Vézelay, France, and the group has been part of the EEEmerging project maintained by the Ambronay Festival. The group's Extradition program formed the basis for the its debut album, Ex-Tradition: Harmonia Nova #1, released in 2017. Its Indiscretion program was expanded into the group's sophomore release of the same name in 2023.
