The members of this vocal group from New York, New York, USA were lead Harold Wright (d. April 1996), first tenor Myles Hardy, and bass Daniel Stevens. The Diamonds had moderate success in the early 50s specializing in deep-sounding ballads. The group was formed in 1948 as a trio - Wright, Hardy, and Stevens - but in 1950 they added a guitarist, Ernest Ward, who also sang tenor. The group was discovered by Bobby Schiffman of the Apollo Theatre and he gave them their start by having them play the amateur shows at his theatre. As their manager he helped them sign with Atlantic Records, which was enjoying great success with the Clovers at the time. The company released three singles by the group, the best remembered being ‘A Beggar For Your Kisses’. The unit broke up by 1954, and Wright joined the Regals, who recorded four tracks for Aladdin. When the other Regals became Sonny Till’s new Orioles group, Wright formed the Metronones, which recorded four tracks for Cadance.
