Montreal's Maxime Morin didn't immediately hit on the formula that would make his Champion alias such a huge success. From his early days playing guitar in punk and metal bands, to making techno tracks, to a stint as a jingle producer, to playing on the Oscar-nominated theme from Les Triplettes de Belleville, Morin explored every corner of performing and producing—and merged them all on his 2005 debut, Chill ‘em All. Morin brings a composer's ear to his recordings, crafting layered, cinematic arcs where haunting vocals (like those of fellow Belleville contributor Betty Bonifassi) meet danceable beats, moody electronics, and rhythmic guitar lines.
