Hector El Bambino (later “El Father”) was one of the original young guns of reggaetón, breaking out of the gates with his first LP in 1998 as one half of the duo Héctor & Tito. He went on his own in 2004, taking the lyrical dexterity he’d developed through the ’90s to a new level with songs like “Sola,” addressed to a woman suffering from domestic violence, and the rowdy phone-sex anthem “El Teléfono,” which showcases El Father’s acrobatic rhymes. JAY Z even briefly signed him to Roc-La-Familia, but the star gave it all up in 2008 to get a degree in theology and preach the Christian gospel.
