Tenerife isn’t known for producing rap stars, but the Canary Island spawned a hip-hop hero in Sara Socas. The singer, multi-instrumentalist and fierce freestyler from Tegueste town has made waves in the Spanish-speaking world since the late 2010s, thanks to her unique skills on the mic and the sharp, melodic qualities of her music. In 2021, she became the first female rapper to light up the much-lauded Freestyle Master Series and since then she’s released a string of hits that differ wildly in style, plus 2023’s TFN-MAD—an album full of smooth R&B, catchy Latin rhythms and heartfelt hip-hop.
