Perhaps the most famous percussionist in jazz, Airto Moreira was a professional musician by the age of 13, immersed in the dynamic rhythms of his native Brazil. After Airto married singer Flora Purim, the couple moved to the U.S., where he quickly joined Miles Davis' new electric group, playing on the iconic Bitches Brew. His career as a bandleader began with '70's Natural Feelings, which like almost all of his solo albums featured Purim on vocals. The pair also formed the fusion group Return To Forever with Chick Corea, though they left after two LPs.
