With a musical career spanning more than 20 years, South African gospel singer Deborah Fraser was known for her resounding vocals and unflinching faith. Getting her start as a backing vocalist, she worked with artists like Hugh Masekela, Brenda Fassie, Letta Mbulu, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Cyndi Lauper, BeBe Winans and more. From her debut album, 2000’s Abanye Bayombona, to 2016’s Uhambo and 2019’s OkaJehova Akanqotshwa, Fraser shared messages of hope and gratitude, and spent her time away from the microphone mentoring younger artists like Nomcebo Zikode. Though Fraser passed away on 15 May, 2022, her legacy lives on with her final album, Jehovah Ngiyabonga, a celebration of her love of God.
