Self-taught French composer and pianist RIOPY has always created his deeply meditative solo music in his head, spending hours at his keyboard conjuring his gentle miniatures. He moved to London in the early 2000s when he was 21, and soon after enrolling at Oxford University he began performing his pieces in small clubs, but his breakthrough came when advertising agencies began to use his haunting melodies in television commercials. Before long, he was scoring films, but his solo recordings reveal the pop-like concision of his music, as infectiously memorable melodies unfold within hypnotically repeating frameworks.
