You wear hi-vis clothing to not just be seen, but to really stand out. Named after the bright, neon attire, the first Presets LP in six years does just that. Rather than looking back to the Sydney duo’s mid-2000s electro-pop heyday, Hi Viz feels like the hyperenergetic soundtrack to a wild cyber-rave, decades in the future. On “Beethoven,” techno beats and processed vocals are a curious juxtaposition to the repeated lyrical mantra, “I like to listen to Beethoven.” And “Downtown Shutdown” is a brilliant, jubilant protest against Sydney’s stifling nightlife laws that also harks back to the political undertones of their 2008 hit “My People.”
