BBB - EP
アルバム · Punjabi · 2025
When Canada-based Punjabi artist Kunwarr released his debut EP Excuse My Pain in 2021, he was building up to make a statement after his breakout single “All Lies” from the same year. Four years and several experiments later—from a nod to trap and hip-hop on songs such as “Addiction” and “Freestyle” and funky grooves on “Raatan Nu”—Kunwarr’s second EP, BBB, takes the dance-floor-friendly route to air his grievances, often in matters of the heart. BBB stands for ‘Bad Boy Blues’, which Kunwarr says represents walking his own path in the face of hearing too many opinions about his artistry. He tells Apple Music: “I was done hearing ‘what should be done’ and ‘what you should do’ and realised I had too many people around me. I just wanted to make what I feel is dope and this project is exactly that.” With four tracks produced by JayB Singh, the EP was a culmination of intense studio time that lasted six months from start to finish, sleepless nights and endless arguments included. Kunwarr takes us through the stories behind BBB, track by track. “GALL” “I always wanted to do something on a Jersey Club beat and this was my first shot. The energy in the studio was so crazy that day. It was so effortless and we instantly knew we had a banger.“The lyrics are about any love at first sight emotions you may have felt. It’s about how a pair of eyes can sometimes affect you, you know what I mean?” “KOHINOOR” “I wrote this song during a camp in Toronto in 2022, I had it in a different beat. I’d played it a lot and always felt this groove missing so I reproduced the whole thing with my bro JayB. The lyrics are about obsession, desire and intimacy. It’s an expression of liking and love put together with a wavy trap beat.” “LOST” “I wrote this song after a breakup. A huge part of my artistry comes from saying whatever I feel and I did exactly that. I’d just left the gym, wanted to talk my shit and I did. The lyrics talk about lovers that could never say goodbye. It’s about love lost and lost love. One of the challenges in writing this song was being real [with myself] and putting that on paper.” “DEMON TIME” “I wrote this in LA; we were recording parts of this project and had a different song as the last track. The day after I dubbed what I had to, we had a crazy, crazy night. It was the crew, the team, my boys and it felt unreal. I woke up the next day super hungover and started working on music. JayB sent me a beat while he was in London. Instantly it hit. I dubbed the song, he got back to me the same day. The whole crew got so hyped we changed the last song. That was crazy. It’s about me and what we be doing, what we be wanting to do. It’s the present and the future.”
