Though Bobby Fuller is known for a handful of hits—"I Fought the Law," "Let Her Dance," "Love's Made a Fool of You"—his complete legacy includes some of the most brutal rock performances of the '60s. This second installment of Norton's early days in El Paso includes live recordings from Fuller's home tape recorder made between 1962 and 1964. Although the tapes came from a primitive source, the sound is surprisingly sharp and powerful. Jerry Lee Lewis' "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" jumps out of the speakers. Studio recordings capture a well-tuned early rock 'n' roll band. Fuller's admiration for fellow Texan Buddy Holly is in full evidence with "Fool of Love," "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care," "Not Fade Away," and "Peggy Sue/ Pamela." For surf guitar, few tracks measure up to Fuller's version of "Miserlou," complete with glorious reverb. Several of these tunes would show up later in Fuller's career, including the incredible "It's Love Come What May," "My Own True Love," and "Take My Word."
