Steel Pulseについて
Steel Pulse is a Grammy Award-winning British reggae band that has been mixing classic roots vibes with political lyrics and contemporary sounds for nearly 50 years.
∙ The band was formed in 1975 by school friends who found inspiration in the music and message of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Catch a Fire.
∙ An opening slot on a UK tour with Burning Spear earned them a deal with Island Records, which released their acclaimed debut album, Handsworth Revolution, in 1978.
∙ The group broke through in the US with their 1982 LP, True Democracy, which spent 13 weeks on the Billboard 200.
∙ Babylon the Bandit won a 1986 Grammy for Best Reggae Album, the only time (other than Sting in 2019) that a non-Jamaican artist has won the award.
∙ Steel Pulse’s “Can’t Stand It” was prominently featured in Spike Lee’s 1989 film Do The Right Thing.
∙ Seven of their albums have landed in the Top 20 of Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart, including 2019’s Mass Manipulation—their first to reach No. 1.
