b. Jason Andrew Williams, 9 May 1974, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Don Yute is best remembered for his 1995 combination hit with Wayne Wonder, ‘Sensi Ride’. He performed in a style reminiscent of Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. He also recorded in combination with Prezident Brown on the enlightening ‘African Thing’. Don Yute’s success led to him working with a number of producers, including Donovan Germain (‘All That Glitters’), Bobby Digital (‘Funny Funny’) and Steely And Clevie (‘Hard Core’), while Colin ‘Bulby’ York produced ‘Click Click’. He maintained a high profile with the hits ‘Gal It Wouldn’t Easy’, ‘You Own Di Man’, ‘La La La’, ‘Golden Child’ and ‘Livin’ In A Dream’. In 1997 he released his debut album, which included the cream of his hits. In the same year he appeared at Sting 97 with newcomer Sean Paul, who had enjoyed a combination hit, ‘Ladies Night’, with Spanner Banner. Don Yute is considered a ‘name brand’ DJ, but he has yet to repeat the success of ‘Sensi Ride’. In the latter half of the 90s the studios in Jamaica were delivering literally thousands of dancehall releases, and much of Don Yute’s later work was neglected as a result; some hope emerged, however, when the Jamaican Government asked the island’s producers to limit the number of releases.
