Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. During the recording of the Mozart piano concertos in 1990, founding conductor Jos van Immerseel spent days dissecting and interpreting each and every rhetorical figure. The result was concertos that ‘spoke’ so clearly that they were hailed as ‘new’.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Anima Eterna Brugge, Jos van Immerseel, Beethoven: Symphonies & Ouvertures Anima Eterna Brugge, Jos van Immerseel, Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique & Le carnaval Romain The results of our research have often been suprising, and always new: The bone-dry tympani in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. The ophicleide cutting through the texture in Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique. Or the taut, restrained tempo in Ravel’s Boléro.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Touring the globe with Beethoven's symphonies in 2016: from Sydney Festival to New York Lincoln Center.
