Adopting the country music style, Bob Nelson had hits as singer/composer with songs like "O Boi Barnabé" (with Afonso Simão), "Eu Tiro o Leite" (with Sebastião Lima), and "Te Agüenta, Mané" (with Almeida Rego). His adaptation for "O Susana" was also released in the U.S. He participated in films in the '40s, such as Segura Esta Mulher and Este Mundo é Um Pandeiro. Nelson's early performances as a singer were at the Rádio Educadora (Campinas SP) in the '30s. He was a backing vocalist for Carmen Miranda in 1939, when she performed in his hometown. In the next year, influenced by Carmen's accompanying group Bando da Lua, he participated in the vocal/instrumental Grupo Cacique group, which also had Paulinho Nogueira as a member. In the '40s, Nelson adopted the cowboy outfit, performing for General McCarthy during the World War II. He also worked at Rádio Nacional until 1976. ~ Alvaro Neder
