During a 2015 interview—shortly after the release of their bubbly debut single, “Devoted (Donated)”—Mark Reichardt recalled how his schoolteachers jokingly warned they were going to give him and Conor McCarthy—the other half of Cape Town band Cute Couple—the “cutest couple” award at the year-end function. Friends for life, these two bro musos have since gone on to create one of the freshest indie music breezes the Mother City has experienced in recent times. Reichardt handles songwriting, singing and production, while McCarthy covers drums and percussion. Experimental production techniques, analogue recordings and a fresh approach to the elements of pop song structures abound, contributing to the slow-burning, idiosyncratic sound the duo display on their acclaimed 2017 debut full-length release, Terminus.
