The roots of indie pop duo Donovan Blanc began with the group Honeydrum. Based in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Honeydrum was the recording project of Joseph Black and Raymond Schwab who issued a total of nine EPs between 2011 and 2013. Near the end of that time, the band's focus began to sharpen, developing into the lush, Mellotron- and guitar-led indie pop that would become the sound of Black and Schwab's new venture, Donovan Blanc. Eschewing the more experimental and abstract D.I.Y. pop offerings of their prolific Honeydrum years, Donovan Blanc became the duo's outlet for more singer/songwriter-oriented pop, which has more in common with the wistful guitar pop of Real Estate and the warm neo-psych of Foxygen. In early 2014 they joined the roster of prominent Brooklyn indie Captured Tracks, which released their self-titled debut LP in June of that year. ~ Timothy Monger
