Growing up in West Kingston, Jamaica, reggae singer Louis Grandison—aka Dexta Daps—was inspired by such local heroes as dancehall musician Shabba Ranks.
∙ “Morning Love,” his 2014 debut single, was a hit on local radio, and 2015’s “7 Eleven” and “Jealous Ova” (with Tifa) were Jamaican dance-club favorites.
∙ Bounty Killer, a childhood idol of Daps’, praised him on social media in 2016 as “the baddest young gun” on the dancehall scene.
∙ Daps is featured on M.I.A.’s track “Foreign Friend,” from her 2016 chart-topping album, AIM, which she recorded in Jamaica.
∙ In 2017, he dropped his debut album, Intro, complete with an accompanying erotic short film that racked up more than 1.5 million views.
∙ His 2020 sophomore album, Vent, featured the track “Obviously,” a collaboration with dancehall superstar Beenie Man.
