In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember walking to school, making up songs to the beat of my shoes on the sidewalk. When I heard The White Album years later, I locked myself in my room to listen on repeat. Fiona, Liz Phair, Vivaldi, Barbra, Liza, Elliott--these all shaped me.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Barbra Streisand, My Name Is Barbra Fiona Apple, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do (Expanded Edition) The Beatles, The Beatles (The White Album) These three albums blow me completely away. The amount of feeling, truth, risk, and beauty in all of these makes me happy to be alive.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Move You [SSSPII]” I thought I'd never finish this one--I had the lyrics and melody, but it didn't feel right. Finally, I tried setting it to a different beat--a Motown drum loop a la the Supremes. It completely changed things and the song finally came into focus.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Being part of something as iconic as Twilight ("Satellite Heart" is on the Twilight New Moon Soundtrack) and being told that my cover of T.I.'s Whatever You Like is on so many people's makeup playlists is a real kick.
