One of the most respected European harpsichordists working in Baroque music, Francesco Corti sounds equally at home working in the intimate setting of chamber music or with the grand gestures of an orchestra in full flight. He’s known for bringing all the care and close attention of an early music aficionado to his work while adding a fresh, modern energy in his approach to the instrument. Born in Arezzo, Italy, in 1984, Corti came from a musical family who encouraged his development as a performer. He studied organ as well as harpsichord, focusing on the former in his homeland and going abroad to study the latter in Amsterdam and Geneva. Corti made his recording debut in 2007 playing the music of Louis Couperin. Other outstanding recordings include a bracingly virtuoso account of Bach’s 6 Partitas (1725-31) for Berlin Classics, and 2021’s Anima Aeterna, a stunning collection of 18th-century sacred arias and motets with countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński. Corti has performed around the globe as well as conducting Il Pomo d’Oro and a number of European operatic productions including The Barber of Seville and Madama Butterfly. In 2016 he became a professor of harpsichord at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
