Guitarist and composer Joel Harrison's advanced style weds modern jazz, classical, Americana, and ethnic fusion. He gained attention for 1997's Range of Motion and 2003's Free Country with Norah Jones. 2009's funky Urban Myths featured saxophonist David Binney. He has issued several big band dates including 2013's Infinite Possibility and collaborations with Indian sarod player Anupam Shobhakar, including 2019's Still Point: Turning World. 2020's big band offering America at War meditated on the country's obsession with armed conflict and 2021's Guitar Talk featured duets with guitarists. In 2023, Harrison issued a pair of albums on different labels. The Stardust Reunion Band from AGS Recordings centered around original vocal songs across R&B, jazz, rock, and gospel, while Anthem of Unity on HighNote offered originals and standards by a cast that included the guitarist, drummer Jack DeJohnette, organist Gary Versace, and saxophonist Greg Tardy.
