Not for nothing is Kenny Segal often called a producer's producer, given his knack for grimy drums and heady atmospheres, and a natural ability to adapt to a broad spectrum of rappers. Originally a drum'n'bass producer, the Los Angeles native (by way of Maryland) quickly found his way in hip-hop as a beatmaker for members of Project Blowed and Freestyle Fellowship. He made his solo full-length debut in 2008 with Ken Can Cook, featuring a rotating cast of MCs, and has gone on to issue numerous instrumental projects, but he's known most for the many co-billed LPs he has crafted with assorted rappers. These include 2019's Hiding Places and Back at the House (recorded respectively with Billy Woods and Hemlock Ernst), 2023's Maps (with Woods again), and 2024's Genuine Dexterity (with K-the-I???). Segal has also produced tracks for Open Mike Eagle, Milo, and Armand Hammer, among many others, and he co-produced Benjamin Booker's 2025 album Lower.
