Daughter of famed flamenco singer Antonio Molina and sister of actress Angela Molina, Monica Molina grew up in Madrid and began her show business career as an actress, debuting onscreen at age 18 with her sister in 1986's La Mitad del Cielo. Further roles followed in the '90s before Molina made her stage debut in The Importance of Being Earnest and also appeared on television. After her father's death in 1996, she and her brother Noel began work on the 1999 tribute album Tu Desperida, which became a sizable hit in Spain, selling over 50,000 copies. She returned with 2001's Vuela, featuring boleros, ballads, and Portuguese fados. An even bigger success, Vuela earned Molina a nomination at the 2002 Latin Grammy Awards. ~ Steve Huey
