Although little known by the general public, P.F. Sloan was a behind-the-scenes giant of the 1960s West Coast pop scene and was acknowledged as one of the founding fathers of folk-rock. In partnership with songwriter Steve Barri, Sloan composed now-classic hits for Barry McGuire ("Eve of Destruction"), Johnny Rivers ("Secret Agent Man"), the Turtles ("You Baby"), and scores of others. Despite the New York City native's great talent, his own albums were poorly received upon their release, relegating him to (barely) cult status. After a long period of relative inactivity, a resurgence of interest in Sloan's work in the '90s led to the reissuing of much of his solo material. A brand-new 2006 album, Sailover, heralded a return to form.
