Known for her wide range of vocal techniques, Shilpa Rao began her career performing commercial jingles before becoming one of Bollywood’s most prolific singers.
∙ Her breakout performance of “Khuda Jaane,” from the 2008 rom-com Bachna Ae Haseeno, earned Rao a win for Best Female Playback Singer at the Screen Awards.
∙ Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman tapped her to sing on “Ishq Shava,” which was featured on the acclaimed soundtrack for the 2012 drama Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
∙ In 2016, she became only the second-ever Indian artist to appear on the Pakistani version of the TV series Coke Studio, in which she performed “Paar Chanaa De” with alt-rock outfit Noori.
∙ “Bulleya,” written by celebrated Bollywood composer Pritam for the 2016 box office smash Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, was a Top 40 hit in India and on Billboard’s Top Triller Global chart.
∙ Recorded as a duet with Arijit Singh for the 2019 blockbuster War, “Ghungroo” shot to No. 1 on iTunes after its release.
