Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember being in church, as a 4 year old and seeing a big box. I noticed that people in the church were responding to the guy behind the big wooden box. After the church service I wondered over to the big box and saw my first set of Piano keys.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? R+R=NOW, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, R+R=Now Live (Live) [feat. Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Derrick Hodge, Taylor McFerrin & Justin Tyson] Various Artists, I Don't Like Classical Music, but I Really Like This! Yellowjackets, Four Corners These albums represent the spectrum of music that I enjoy when working out. I tend to take music from other styles and implement them into what I create. The alleviates writers all together because I'm not bottlenecking my ideas from one source.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Key & Peele” Key & Peele is one of my favorite tunes because the groove is just so subtly funky. We did it live and wow! That musicians just nailed the groove and took it to a higher place. It will be on the live album.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Playing keys at Rock the bells with Lauryn Hill. Also, playing Zanzibar, in L.A. with Sly Stone and George Clinton. But can't forget being the musical director for Sly Stone at Coachella. I love music.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I'd love to play the Hollywood bowl, headline a Music festival and write a song so good that it heals.
