Whether they’re performing their original songs or reinventing the beloved likes of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” and The Beatles’ “In My Life,” eclectic duo Tuck & Patti apply a light touch to everything they do. The warmth and delicacy of their music are also a testament to the special partnership that’s existed since guitarist William Charles “Tuck” Andress (born in 1952 in Tulsa) met vocalist Patti Cathcart (born in 1949 in San Francisco) at an audition in 1978, leading to their marriage in 1983. Though Andress had a background in funkier fare as a session player for The Gap Band, the sound they developed together was a rich and spacious blend of pop, folk, and jazz. Their 1988 debut, Tears of Joy, also established their flair for quietly captivating versions of pop songs and jazz standards, as well as affecting originals such as the title track. Over the course of the next few decades and albums like 2004’s A Gift of Love, the duo developed a loyal audience while also drawing some younger fans thanks to their collaborations with Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, their former tour manager and Andress’ niece.
