Dutch saxophonist/vocalist Candy Dulfer is a crossover jazz star, known for her funky R&B and dance music-inflected sound. Initially brought to the public's attention via appearances with Prince, Dulfer (whose influences range from Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis to Maceo Parker and David Sanborn) went on to become a hugely successful solo artist. Her 1990 debut, Saxuality, reached number four on the Contemporary Jazz Chart and hit 22 on the Billboard 200. She has remained a chart favorite, with each of her follow-ups becoming Top 20 jazz hits, including 1993's Sax-a-Go-Go, 1997's For the Love of You, and 1999's What Does It Take. Similarly, 2007's Candy Store, 2009's Funked Up, and 2011's Crazy all landed in the jazz Top Ten. Dulfer remains a versatile performer, exploring jazz, dance, and R&B traditions, as on 2016's Together and 2022's We Never Stop.
