The South African contemporary gospel singer Xolly Mncwango sings with the emotional intensity associated with traditional gospel, but distinguishes herself by incorporating traces of R&B and soul into her sound. Mncwango first started developing her vocal talents while singing in church as a child in her native Richards Bay. She joined the legendary South African gospel choir Joyous Celebration in 2013, recording and performing with the group until 2017. Her debut album, Jesus Is Enough, released in 2020, showcased an artist in full control of her voice and a clear-eyed sense of mission. An appearance on rapper Jub Jub’s 2021 single “Ng’thembe Wena” exposed Mncwango to a wider audience.
