Thanks to his repertoire of lovelorn ballads, Steve Chou is known in Taiwan as the Godfather of Love Songs; he's written many for other performers. His own performances tend toward a stripped-down approach that allows the emotion in them to stand out. Chou's soft tenor voice and spare, sometimes atmospheric arrangements emphasize the melancholy tone of his lyrics.
