Eris Drew x Boiler Room MOVE
Playlist - 34 Songs
For inspiration for her MOVE clothing collection with Boiler Room, DJ/producer Eris Drew looked back to the Midwest raves she attended in the ’90s—and their body-freeing attire that allowed for maximum movement. But those times colored a whole lot more than just the sartorial aesthetic she brings to the new collaboration: “My psychedelic experiences at raves helped me to let go of so much of the dogma and false ideologies that I internalized as a kid,” Drew tells Apple Music. “What I learned is that people have a right to be themselves, and that truly being kind is a much deeper concept than politeness.”
Those formative years had a huge impact on the music she makes and plays out. “I am a dancer at heart, so my selections as a DJ start in my body,” she says of this exclusive playlist she assembled to celebrate the launch of MOVE. “As a trans woman, some people want me to perform femininity, but I don’t play that game. This is my favorite music to dance to—some of it slow, some fast, but all with ecstatic healing energy.” The set is a wide-ranging mix, packed with thrumming house, atmospheric techno, bubbly garage, old-school hip-house, and other breaks-driven tracks that can only be classified as rave classics. Mix Factory's “Take Me Away” is “one of my favorite tunes and one I use often to dissolve a dance floor,” Drew says. “I bought it out of a dollar bin in the 1990s and it sat dormant until I played it for [DJ/producer] Octo Octa on one of our first dates. We both started crying as we listened together, because the truth is I was speaking to her through this song.”
